M3 MacBook Air: Specifications and Features
The recently unveiled 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models showcase a remarkably slim and lightweight design, encased in a robust aluminum unibody enclosure. Powered by the M3 processor, these new Apple laptops seamlessly blend high-performance capabilities with exceptional portability. Apple boasts that the new Air delivers outstanding performance and up to 18 hours of battery life.
In terms of specifications, the M3 MacBook Air boasts a swifter 8-core CPU, up to a 10-core GPU, and 24GB of unified memory. Notably, Apple touts the new M3 MacBook Air as the “world’s best consumer laptop for AI,” thanks to its faster 16-core Neural Engine. These latest M3 Macs exhibit up to a 60% increase in speed compared to the previous M1 MacBook Air models.
A standout feature of the new M3 MacBook Air is its support for up to two external displays, a significant and much-appreciated enhancement from the single display capability of previous Apple Silicon Macs. It’s worth noting that this feature functions only when the laptop lid is closed.
With the M3 chip, users can now set up a MacBook Air workstation with two external displays, provided the laptop remains in clamshell mode. However, upon opening the lid, the screen illuminates, and access is limited to only one active external display, consistent with previous M1 and M2 Macs.
Additionally, the new MacBook Air supports Wi-Fi 6E for faster Wi-Fi performance. It also includes Voice Isolation and Wide Spectrum microphone modes for clear voice during calls. Design-wise, the M3 MacBook Air resembles the M2 model with a flat-edged chassis and slim bezel screen. It has a notch cutout housing a 1080p FaceTime camera. Users can enjoy a Magic Keyboard with Touch ID integrated into the power button.
M3 MacBook Air: Price and Availability
The 13-inch MacBook Air equipped with the M3 chip is priced at $1,099, while students can avail it at $999. Conversely, the 15-inch variant with the M3 chip starts at $1,299, or $1,199 for students. It’s pleasing to observe Apple maintaining the same price points as the previous M2 models, which have been subject to discounts.
The new M3 MacBook Air offers four attractive color choices: Midnight, Starlight, Space Grey, and Silver. Both the 13-inch and 15-inch models are available for pre-order on the Apple online store, with shipping commencing on March 8th.
