On July 10, Apple held a secret event in New York to promote video games on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. This has become a tradition, as Apple has hosted similar events before, typically for media and influencers. After these demonstrations, attendees usually publish many articles online, in both social media and newspapers.
This year, however, only the Japanese news site Macotakara mentioned the event. It’s unclear why other guests haven’t spoken about it. Perhaps Apple instructed them to wait before releasing any information. More details will likely emerge in the coming days.
What happened during the event?
During the presentation, Apple showcased in this Event the capabilities of its devices with several games, including Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, Valheim, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Diablo Immortal, and Palworld. Guests had the chance to try these games on Mac, iPad, and iPhone using adapted controllers. A Sony PlayStation controller was provided for the tablet and smartphone, while a Backbone controller was used for the iPhone.
Thanks to the advanced performance of Apple Silicon chips, many previously inaccessible games are now playable in the Apple ecosystem, especially on Mac. Many users had turned to alternatives like Cloud Gaming. The new Macs now deliver a complete gaming experience, though many popular titles still aren’t supported. However, Apple offers a porting tool that helps developers bring their Windows games to macOS.
Coming soon to all iPhone games on Mac?
Apple also discussed upcoming updates to their operating systems, revealing several new features such as a game mode in iOS 18 and expansions to the Apple Game Porting Toolkit. This toolkit now enables developers to port macOS games over to iOS.
