Microsoft Edge on Android now officially allows web extension installations. Use Edge Canary and enable ‘Android Extension’ flag for access. Currently, three extensions, Dark Reader, uBlock Origin, and Global Speed, are supported in the mobile browser.
For years, smartphone users have sought Chrome extensions on Android, a feature Google has not pursued. Mozilla supports add-ons on Firefox for Android, and now Microsoft follows suit. Edge for Android now supports extensions, starting with Edge Canary version 123.
- Begin by installing Microsoft Edge Canary (Free) on your Android device.
- Open Edge Canary and paste the below address to open the Edge flags page.
edge://flags
- Here, search for “Android Extension” and enable the flag from the drop-down menu. You can also paste the below address to directly open the flag. Now, tap on “Restart”.
edge://flags/#edge-extensions-android
- This will enable extensions in Microsoft Edge for Android. To install new extensions, tap on the hamburger menu in the bottom-right corner, slide left, and open the “All menu”.
- Here, tap and hold “Extensions” and drag it to the above section. Tap on “Done”.
- Now, open the hamburger menu again and tap on “Extensions“.
- Finally, you can install browser extensions such as Dark Reader, uBlock Origin, and Global Speed on your Android phone.
Follow these steps to enable extensions in Microsoft Edge for Android. Although there are currently only three extensions, Microsoft is expected to expand the library over time. This enhancement will empower users to personalize their browsing experience on Android smartphones significantly.
