Microsoft is simplifying PC Cleaner’s installation by adding it to the Microsoft Store in Windows 11. This tool could speed up your PC and fix issues. Similar to CCleaner, PC Cleaner aims to declutter Windows system folders and boost performance.
Since 2022, Microsoft has been testing its own cleaning and maintenance software, initially for the Chinese market as PC Manager. It’s now available for download in various regions, including the US, and works on both Windows 10 and 11. Though not yet available on all Windows 11 devices, it’s expected soon, according to an official Microsoft PC Cleaner page.
Which features and tools users can expect from PC Manager
The latest version of PC Manager introduces a floating toolbar for quick access to its tools, including:
- PC Boost: Handles unnecessary processes, deletes temporary files, and offers a Smart Boost option for RAM spikes and large temporary files.
- Deep Cleanup: Clears older Windows update files, recycle bin files, web cache, and application caches, with customizable options.
- Process: Provides a view of running processes, enabling termination without Task Manager.
- Startup: Manages startup apps.
- Large Files: Quickly locates large files on drives.
- Additional tools like Taskbar Repair and Restore Default Apps, promoting Microsoft apps.
Microsoft’s take on third-party system cleaner apps
Microsoft has expressed reservations about third-party PC cleaner apps, warning users of potential harm. These apps may inadvertently delete crucial registry files in their quest to remove “junk.” CCleaner, for instance, received Microsoft’s “potentially unwanted program” (PUP) designation due to security concerns. While Microsoft promotes its own PC Manager, available on the Microsoft Store, it assures users of safety and functionality. Although third-party options exist, Microsoft’s offering is perceived as reliable, free from malware, and feature-rich. While not yet available on the Microsoft Store, an official page indicates a forthcoming direct download link.
