Microsoft has already rolled out one feature update for Windows 11 this year, called the โMoment 5โ update. However, this update was relatively minor, bringing only a few noticeable changes and new features. Looking forward, Version 24H2, set for release in the second half of 2024, is anticipated to be far more substantial. This upcoming version aims to bring a multitude of new features and enhancements, providing users with a more robust and polished experience with Windows 11.
While the complete list of new upcoming features for Windows 11 version 24H2 isn’t finalized yet, there are several exciting changes we already know about that are coming to the operating system. Here are five cool features (some of them will be available before version 24H2).
Windows 11 Users Can Use Their Smartphones as Webcams
Microsoft has introduced a beneficial new connected camera feature. With just a few clicks, users can easily convert their Android phone into a webcam on Windows 11 (Released). Microsoft has finally rolled out the Moment 5 update for Windows 11 to users in the stable channel. Alongside this release, the Redmond giant unveiled an exciting feature that enables users to seamlessly transform their Android phones into webcams directly on Windows 11. This functionality bears resemblance to the Continuity Camera, also known as the โiPhone as a webcamโ feature, recently introduced on macOS. However, at present, the feature is exclusively accessible to Windows Insiders. Microsoft has indicated that it will be available to all users in the coming months.
Copilot to Integrate Deeply with Windows 11
The Copilot feature in Windows still appears to be an add-on with only a few genuinely useful features for Windows. However, Microsoft is actively enhancing this new AI assistant to better interact with your computerโs hardware. Soon, you’ll be able to ask Copilot to search for Wi-Fi networks, display device information, check the battery level, activate battery saver, free up storage, take a screenshot, utilize accessibility features, and more.
Although it may not appear groundbreaking initially, these enhancements could significantly simplify using a Windows PC for individuals less familiar with technology.

Windows 11 QR Code Generator
This update might seem minor, but these small improvements often enhance the convenience of an operating system. One of the upcoming Windows updates will enable you to create QR codes when sharing links. This will significantly simplify moving websites from your PC to your phone. You wonโt need to email links to yourself or wait for Microsoft Edge to sync your history anymore.
Windows 11 Energy Saver
Microsoft is expanding the existing energy saver feature to encompass more devices, such as desktop computers that typically donโt utilize rechargeable batteries. The upgraded energy saver will enable you to sacrifice some performance for improved battery life and assist in reducing energy consumption, whether your battery is at a specific level or even when your device is plugged in.
Once you activate the energy saver in the Settings app or the Quick Settings menu, a new leaf icon will appear in the notification area. This icon indicates that your system is operating at a reduced performance level to conserve energy.

New Lock Screen Widgets for Windows 11
The Lock screen on Windows 11 will soon feature more useful information. Currently, you can add a weather widget, and upcoming updates will introduce options for stocks, traffic, sports scores, and more. These widgets will be optional, allowing you to maintain a simple and clean lock screen on your Windows 11 PC if you prefer.
Additionally, these new widgets will also be available on Windows 10.
A Wi-Fi Refresh Button for Windows 11
The network settings will soon feature a dedicated refresh button, enabling you to rescan for available networks if you can’t find the one you need. It’s unclear why it took Microsoft so long to implement this small feature, but I suppose it’s better late than never.
Conclusion
These are just six cool upcoming features that will soon be available in Windows 11. The upcoming Windows 11 version 24H2, releasing later this year, will bring even more enhancements. Stay tuned for additional updates in the coming months. We’ll revisit this list after the May 2024 Surface event and the Build 2024 conference, where Microsoft is expected to unveil numerous new AI features and more.
