Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, affirms the arrival of generative AI features later this year. The Cupertino tech giant aims to integrate AI across iOS, iPadOS, and macOS platforms. Traditionally, Apple unveils software updates at its annual WWDC in June.
The buzz about a more intelligent Siri and Apple’s Generative AI has been widespread in recent months. In the company’s quarterly earnings call yesterday, Apple CEO Tim Cook uncommonly discussed the firm’s commitment to Artificial Intelligence. He stated that the company is developing generative AI features slated for release to customers ‘later this year.’
This comment supports speculations about iOS 18 potentially being the most significant update in Apple’s history. Numerous leaks and indications hint at Artificial Intelligence and its extensive integration playing a substantial role in shaping iOS 18. Additionally, references in the iOS 17.4 code suggest Apple’s development of its extensive language model, codenamed Ajax.
Although Cook’s comments lacked specific details, it appears Apple aimed to counter industry narratives suggesting it lags behind Google, Amazon, and Microsoft in AI. Notably, these competitors have already launched advanced AI models for ChatGPT-like experiences in 2023, while Apple has yet to introduce any AI generative features.
As per various reports and leaks, Apple is poised to enhance Siri with advanced AI capabilities. Despite criticisms about Siri not evolving like other voice assistants, Apple aims to shift this perception significantly.
The company is developing a new iteration, ‘Siri 2.0,’ predominantly powered by contemporary generative AI large language models. Apple intends to introduce compelling AI features throughout iOS, encompassing playlist recommendations in Apple Music, intelligent replies in Messages, and more. The plan is to integrate AI seamlessly across all its software platforms, including iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.
