After its mobile release months ago, WhatsApp is now working on bringing the Chat Lock feature to its web client. This feature will allow users to conceal individual chats, accessible through a dedicated tab on WhatsApp web. The preview suggests that the feature may be introduced alongside an upcoming design overhaul.
WhatsApp Web and the desktop app often lack certain features available on the mobile app. Notably, the Chat Lock feature, allowing users to lock and hide individual chats, was missing. The good news is that this highly requested feature is set to arrive on WhatsApp Web soon.
A recent report by WABetaInfo unveils the Chat Lock icon in the sidebar tab, indicating the imminent addition of this feature. Users will be able to access their locked chats on the web client and add new chats to the locked folder.
As evident from the provided screenshot, the padlock icon signifies the Chat Lock feature in the sidebar. This suggests that locked chats will have a dedicated tab on the web, potentially with an option to conceal the tab behind a secure passcode. The web app might also implement the passkey system introduced in WhatsApp for chat protection.
For those unfamiliar with it, Chat Lock on WhatsApp allows users to lock individual chats and store them in a separate folder. On the phone, these chats are hidden from the main chat screen and can only be accessed with the device’s screen lock, providing a useful layer of privacy.
While the feature is still in development, it is expected to make its way to the web app, potentially coinciding with a new design overhaul. If you already use chat lock on WhatsApp’s mobile app, are you looking forward to its introduction on the web? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
