I’ve been eagerly anticipating this for years. Whenever I set up a new Windows 11 PC, my first task is to disable “enhance pointer precision” in the Control Panel and tweak the scroll wheel direction through the registry editor. Soon, I won’t have to go through these hoops anymore because of new Windows 11 mouse settings .
Windows watcher PhantomOfEarth uncovered Microsoft’s plans to integrate these settings into the modern Windows 11 Settings interface. Although currently hidden behind a flag in the latest Canary build, it’s a promising development.
It’s been a long-standing puzzle why desktop PC users had to resort to registry edits or rely on third-party software for such basic mouse adjustments while laptop users had these options readily available. Apple has offered mouse scroll direction customization in macOS for years, making it a seamless experience.

Disabling “enhance pointer precision” is a common practice among PC gamers, myself included. Having to navigate through cumbersome menus or Control Panel settings just to access this feature has always been a hassle.
As someone who switches between macOS and Windows for gaming, I’m thrilled about these additions to Windows 11. Although Microsoft hasn’t officially confirmed their arrival, with testing underway, I anticipate seeing this Windows 11 mouse settings feature available to all Windows 11 users later this year.
