ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s telecom industry is evolving, impacting business profitability and service offerings. The national telecom authority has released a survey on the best and worst mobile networks.
The comprehensive survey, conducted over two months in the first quarter of 2024, assessed the performance of Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs) based on Cellular Mobile Network Quality of Service (QoS) Regulations. It included 250,000 Mobile Broadband tests, 45,000 Call and SMS tests, and 130,000 Ookla Speed tests.
Mobile networks were ranked in four categories: Mobile Network Coverage, Mobile Broadband, Voice, and SMS Services, based on their compliance with QoS Regulations. The PTA evaluated networks on SMS, Voice quality, Mobile Broadband, Data, Latency, and internet browsing.

From January 1 to March 31, the survey covered over a dozen cities in Punjab, Sindh, KP, and Balochistan. It recorded 3G signal strength samples on survey routes when the network switched to 3G while the mobile handset was in auto-detect mode.
The results showed that out of 20,485 call attempts, more than 300 calls failed, and 143 calls dropped before two minutes. However, 20,003 calls remained connected for the full duration.
Additionally, out of 20,433 SMS sending attempts, 20,372 SMS were successfully sent.
